Defining and Measuring Camper Outcomes at Camp Beausite Northwest
Supporting a Quality Camp Experience
To ensure a high-quality camp experience that supports each camper’s holistic development, Camp Beausite Northwest has established specific, measurable outcomes that align with our mission and guide our program design and evaluation.
Outcome Areas & Measurements
Physical Well-Being
Objective — Provide adaptive, safe, and engaging activities that promote movement, coordination, and healthy routines.
Measurable Outcomes
- Campers participate in at least three physical or outdoor activities per full day of camp (e.g., swimming, hiking, adaptive sports, games).
- 90% of campers show sustained participation in physical activity periods with minimal refusals, indicating enjoyment and engagement.
- Campers demonstrate increased independence in daily routines (e.g., personal care, transitions) with staff support reduced over time when appropriate.
Social Well-Being
Objective — Facilitate meaningful peer interaction, relationship-building, and communication.
Measurable Outcomes
- 85% of campers engage in at least one positive social interaction per activity period, as observed and recorded by staff.
- Campers are observed using appropriate communication tools or strategies (verbal, AAC devices, gestures) with peers and staff in social settings.
- Campers participate in group activities or team-based games that encourage collaboration and friendship-building.

Mental & Emotional Well-Being
Objective — Support emotional expression, resilience, and a sense of safety and belonging.
Measurable Outcomes
- 90% of campers display positive effect (smiling, laughing, verbal expression of enjoyment) during camp activities.
- Campers successfully utilize coping strategies or self-regulation techniques when presented with challenging situations, with staff support.
- End-of-session camper and caregiver feedback indicates a 90%+ satisfaction rate with emotional safety, inclusion, and overall experience.
These outcomes are evaluated through daily staff observations, documentation tools, camper care logs, and post-session feedback surveys from families and caregivers. This structured approach allows us to adapt programming to better meet camper needs, demonstrate impact to stakeholders, and continue offering meaningful and transformative camp experiences for individuals with disabilities.
